Annual Forum

The Center for Economics, Finance and Management Studies (CEFMS), Hunan University, is pleased to announce a call for papers for the Center’s second annual forum, Xiangjiang River Forum in Economics, Finance and Management for Young Scholars, to be held on August 25-27, 2023. Further, established in 2013, CEFMS is celebrating its ten-year anniversary, a significant milestone for the Center. We warmly invite all forum participants to join us in celebrating this momentous occasion with our faculty, students, and alumni.

 

The annual forum offers an international platform for an exchange of ideas and open discussions among scholars in economics, finance, and management on current problems of national and international importance. The forum aims, in particular, to provide a venue for young scholars, including Ph.D. candidates, especially overseas returnees, to maintain and develop international scholarly exchanges, to keep global connections, and to establish a sense of their community.

 

The forum welcomes papers on a broad range of topics in economics and finance. We look forward to meeting with young scholars from all over the world.

 

Paper Submission

· We welcome submissions in all fields of economics and finance.

· For a presentation, please email an extended abstract (400-500 words in English) no later than June 30, 2023 to cefms.conference@hnu.edu.cn. We highly encourage participation on-site, while also selecting a limited number of papers for online presentation.

· The Organizing Committee will e-mail you by July 10, 2023 on whether your paper has been accepted for presentation.

  Dr. Guoqiang Long

 

Dr. Guoqiang Long is the Vice President (Vice Minister), a member of leading party members’ group and a research fellow of the Development Research Center of the State Council.  Dr. Long obtained his Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorate degrees from Peking University. Prior to joining DRC, Dr. Long worked at Peking University, Foreign Economic Relations Research Department, and Brookings Institution's Center for Northeast Asia Policy Studies. Throughout his career, Dr. Long has focused on China's key policy issues related to foreign trade, cross-border investment, international economic cooperation, special economic zones, and regional economic cooperation. Dr. Long has received several prestigious awards, including the DRC's Annual Excellent Papers Award, the China Development Research Award, and the National Prize for Excellent Papers on Foreign Trade and Economic Relations.


Plenary Speakers

Ning Yu

Dr. Ning Yu is a Professor at Nanjing Audit University, a recipient of the “National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars,” a “Chang Jiang Young Scholar” of the Ministry of Education, and a “Jiangsu Specially-Appointed Professor.” He received PhD degrees in Management from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and in Economics from Stanford University, and worked as an assistant professor at Emory University. His research interests include market design and other microeconomic theories and applications. His papers have been published by journals such as Review of Economic Studies and American Economic Review, and recognized by “SUN Yefang Economic Science Award” and “Jiangsu First-Class Award for Outstanding Philosophy and Social Science Research Output.” He was awarded multiple national-level research grants, as well as “WU Jiapei Award for Information Economics,” “Zhang Peigang Young Scholar Award in Development Economics,” “Jiangsu Outstanding Returnees from Overseas Study,” “Jiangsu May Fourth Youth Medal,” etc.


Xiqian Cai

Dr. Xiqian Cai is a professor at Xiamen University, who obtained a PhD degree from National university of Singapore in 2015.  His research interests lie in the field of behavioral economics and development economics. His work has been published in the leading international journals, such as Review of Economic and Statistics, Management Science, Journal of Development Economics. Currently, he is the Associate Editor of China and World Economy and China Economic Studies(《中国经济问题》). He received the Outstanding Youth Science Fund Award by the National Natural Science Foundation of China in 2020.

 

Zhigang Cao

Dr. Zhigang Cao is a professor at the School of Economics and Management, Beijing Jiaotong University. He graduated from the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2010 and stayed on as an assistant researcher. In September 2017, he joined the School of Economics and Management at Beijing Jiaotong University as a professor under the "Outstanding Hundred Talents Program." His main research interests include cooperative games, transportation games, network games, algorithmic games, and other areas. He has published papers in journals such as Operations Research, Mathematics of Operations Research, and Games and Economic Behavior.  His work has received honors including the Chinese Information Economics Theory Contribution Award, and the Youth Science and Technology Award in Systems Science and Systems Engineering. He was funded by the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars.

 

 

 

Qiang Ji

Dr. Qiang Ji is deputy director of Institute of System Analysis and Management in Institutes of Science and Development, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ISDCAS). He presides the program supported by Excellent Young Scientists Fund of National Natural Science Foundation of China and is granted the Excellent Member by Youth Innovation Promotion Association of CAS. He has been engaged in research work in the fields of energy strategic management, energy and climate finance, energy forecasting and risk management. He is the co-founder of China Energy Finance Network, vice president of International Society for Energy Transition Studies and Society for the Studies of Climate Finance. He is a founding editor of Journal of Climate Finance and serves as senior editors, associate editors for over ten energy and financial journals, such as Energy Economics, Finance Research Letters and International Review of Financial Analysis. He has published more than 150 SCI/SSCI indexed articles in peer-reviewed journals and been named in the global “Highly Cited Researchers” lists in year 2021-2022 released by Clarivate Analytics, and “World’s Top 2% Scientists” lists released by Stanford University in year 2020-2022.

 

Xuewei Yang

Dr. Xuewei Yang is a full professor at the School of Management and Engineering, Nanjing University. He holds the position of Deputy Director at the Financial Engineering Research Center. Additionally, he serves as the Vice Chairman of the Jiangsu Provincial Youth Federation of Finance, and Deputy Director of the Financial Technology and Big Data Technology branch of the National Industrial Statistics Teaching and Research Association. Xuewei's research interests encompass investor behavior and protection, financial innovation and regulation, credit (default) risk pricing and management, among other topics. He has led four national-level research projects and authored over 20 research papers in academic journals including The Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, INFORMS Journal on Computing, Mathematical Finance, and Journal of Banking & Finance.


Special Issue

      All submissions accepted for presentation will be eligible for submission to a Special Issue of Journal of Management Science and Engineering (JMSE) (ISSN 2589-5532). The First Forum in 2022

From August 19th to 21st, 2022, the Center's first annual forum, Xiangjiang River Forum in Economics, Finance, and Management for Young Scholars was successfully held at Hunan University. Scholars from more than 40 universities from China and abroad participated in the meeting, with more than 60 papers presented in the forum. Professor Justin Yifu Lin, Dean of the New Structural Economics Research Institute of Peking University, was invited as the keynote speaker of the forum whose presentation theme was "The Meaning of Structural Revolution of New Structural Economics Structure to Modern Economics". In addition, Professor Xiaoguang Chen of the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, Professor Fangwen Lu of Peking University, and Professor Lingling Zheng of the Business School of the Renmin University of China, who have received the Outstanding Youth Science Fund Award by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, shared their working papers in the “Outstanding Youth Scholar Plenary Session” of the forum.

 

About CEFMS

Established as a “special international platform” in 2013, CEFMS at Hunan University attracts research scholars from around the globe to conduct cutting-edge research and provide students with rigorous academic training. The Center admits master’s and doctoral level students and offers positions for post-doctoral fellows. The curricula are similar to graduate programs at research universities in the United States. All courses are in English.

 

Hunan University (http://www.hnu.edu.cn/) is situated at the foot of the Yuelu Mountain and on the west bank of the Xiang River in Changsha, capital city of Hunan Province. The University originated from one of the four famous Academies of the Song Dynasty, the Yuelu Academy, which is the only one of the ancient Chinese academies of classical learning to have evolved into a modern institution of higher education. As one of the key comprehensive universities under the Ministry of Education, Hunan University has been in China’s "Project 211" and "Project 985" for priority investment and development.

 

Changsha is the capital of Hunan Province (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Changsha). The history of the city dates back to the Western Zhou Dynasty (1046-771 BC). The Xiang River runs across the city from south to north, with the Shui-Lu-Zhou Island at the center of the river. The famous Yuelu Mountain lies on the west bank of the river. The renowned historical attractions include the Mawangdui Han Dynasty Tomb (206 BC-AD 220) and the actual Yuelu Academy. Changsha has constantly been ranked top 10 among cities in China in terms of happiness.
